General Description and Expectations for World History
Welcome,
I am pleased to have you in my class. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer. Please remember to bring your materials and a good attitude to class each day.
Course Description
The sixth grade social studies program will focus on the economic and political institutions of selected world regions, as well as the impact of geography on those civilizations. Students will learn about the individuals, ethnic groups, and events that shaped today’s modern cultures. This course will also enhance skills associated with maps/ globes, reading, language arts (writing/ reference skills), and reasoning. There will be a consistent focus on human relations, citizenship, and values. This course is designed to help students understand how things got to be the way they are.

Homework Time
At times we will recite “Sound Offs” regarding various facts. The students will also participate in learning games, complete web quests, and explore learning through projects and other multisensory experiences.
Course Expectations
You are expected to actively participate in class discussions and activities by participating in groups, answering questions, giving examples, relating personal experiences, etc. Part of your grade will be based on your class participation.You are expected to come to class prepared with all materials EVERYDAY. No one will have permission to return to their locker after class has begun. Be sure to carry all of your supplies needed for class. Extra Credit may be assigned at various times throughout the year at the discretion of the teacher. DO NOT rely on extra credit to pull up a grade- strive for good grades all year.
Grade Distribution
While ALL work assigned is important, all work is NOT graded/counted equally. The following is a breakdown of the various percentages that each TYPE of assignment is worth.
Classwork/Quizzes 40%
Tests/Projects 40%
Spanish 10%
Homework 10%

Course Supplies
You should have a highlighter, 2 red pens, blue and black pens, loose- leaf paper, and 4 dividers . Please label your dividers 1) LGM 2) Notes 3) Classwork/HW 4) Handouts
Communication
Agenda books are required for all classes. We encourage all parents to look at the agenda book each night. Mondays are ”organization day”. On Mondays, all students will need to record test, quizzes, and homework assignments into their agenda book.
